Shalom Christian Academy's mission is to Develop Lives of Consequence In the World for the Kingdom of God. We firmly believe the best way to do this is through in person instruction on our campus. The health of our students and staff is our top priority, and we intend to bring our students safely back to campus this fall.

Last updated: July 23, 2020

Shalom Christian Academy released its initial Reopening Plan on July 1. Since that time, there have been orders that impact our plan. Our goal continues to be that we will reopen on August 27 with all of our students in the building. Following are revisions to the original plan. We have also added an FAQ section at the bottom of this page.

Overview

Members of Shalom's Planning Task Force have attended webinars, video conference calls, read articles, and listened to podcasts related to reopening schools. Using these resources along with input from public officials, other school leaders, and survey data from Shalom parents, we have adopted components from many models to create a plan that best fits Shalom Christian Academy for the fall of 2020.

Our plan is to welcome students back on campus for the first day of school on Thursday, August 27th, 2020. However, we understand the ongoing presence of COVID-19 in our community requires us to plan ahead for future outbreaks.*

The Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania utilize the Red, Yellow, and Green three phase matrix for restrictions on work, congregate settings, and social interactions. We have broken our plans down into these categories. Here are the highlights of the plan:

►  In the Red phase students will be doing distance learning.

►  In the Yellow and Green phases students will learn in the building on a regular schedule.

►  Shalom Christian Academy students are expected to attend classes during the Yellow and Green phases. Accommodations may be made for a limited amount of time in special circumstances. If you have questions concerning this policy, please email apetersheim@shalomca.com

►  Parents are responsible to be aware of their child’s health in all phases. If your child’s temperature is higher than 100.3, he/she is required to stay at home.

►  According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Infected people have had a wide range of symptoms reported – from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. If you suspect your child may have COVID-19, please have them see a medical professional. People with the following symptoms may have COVID-19:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
