Dual Enrollment
In lieu of offering AP courses, Shalom enlists a variety of dual enrollment classes aimed at fulfilling required college courses. It is advantageous for students to take these classes because the credits translate into fewer years of paying college tuition. Dual enrollment courses are greatly discounted compared to college costs. This experience also gives students the opportunity to get a feel for taking college classes. Some of these courses are taught by Shalom teachers and others are taught by a college professor who comes to Shalom.
By offering dual enrollment courses rather than AP classes, we have found that the credits are more likely to transfer, students do not depend on one test to get the credit, and dual enrollment is more aligned with college expectations.
