Courses I Teach
Creative Writing
This 11th grade course is designed to allow students to explore a
variety of genres of writing. Fiction, essays and poetry comprise
the core of the lessons. Students have opportunities to
experiment in other forms of writing including, but not limited to
advertisements, plays, devotional articles epitaphs, and humorous
pieces. Class time includes short writing activities and word
exercises. Journal writing teaches the importance of writing on a
regular basis and provides material for more in-depth writing
assignments. At times the Bible is used as a literary example
demonstrating that it is well written and intentional. The
students consider what it means to write with integrity especially as a
Christian writer.
Adolescent Education
In this weekly class seventh grade girls learn about the physical
developments, emotional changes, interpersonal relationships that are
happening at this time of their lives. Th course also includes
information about human sexuality. The first weeks are spent
learning, discussing and considering relationships among girls. They
recognize that individually they are moving from girls to young adults.
This impacts how they view themselves and each other.
Through discussion, journaling, role plays, reading and short
videos the girls are given tools to cope with these changes.
In the lessons on sexuality, the girls learn male
and female physical anatomy, the functions and reproduction.
Because there are only girls in the class, the discussions
can be open and honest. It provides an opportunity to understand
God's design for women, their relationships and their sexuality.
