Spelling
    Second grade spelling is based on the A Beka Phonics Curriculum.  It implements special sounds and groups them accordingly for each spelling list.  Students begin with a list of 15 words and end the year with 25 spelling words and 3 vocabulary words.  

Phonics
    The A Beka Phonics Curriculum is very rigorous.  Students learn to identify special sounds in a vast, ever expanding vocabulary.  Each lesson introduces a new special sound(s) and then invites students to read and think of words that incorporate the new sound.  Worksheets are used to practice and inhance student phonetic awareness.    

Reading
    Students begin the year with A Beka readers and work their way into chapter books.  

Math
    The first half of the year students review math addition facts.  The second half they are introduced to subtraction, multiplication facts 0-5 and division by 2.
